Eastbury Community School

Year 3 Belfast

Hello Belfast, I am your new teacher Miss George.  I am looking forward to getting to know you all more!  My hobbies are reading, listening to music and going for nice, long walks.  This year we will work together to show excellence, collaboration and success! 

Autumn 1

Week 1

We had a lovely transition week into Year 3.  Here are some of the wonderful self portraits we created.


We also visited our school library.

Week 2

In PE we are learning how to play netball.  We learned how to do a chest pass with our new Coach Josh.

In music we are learning a new instrument called the PBuzz with our music teacher.

Week 3

In English, we are doing report writing.  We learned the Talk for Writing text which also helped up learn the features of a report.


 Week 4

Our big question this year in RE is How are symbols and sayings important in religion?  We listened to the parable of the Pharisee and the tax collector and learned that it taught people about humility and to not think your better than others.  We used this parable to create our own role play.



 Week 5

Meet the Super Science Squad!


This term we are learning about rocks.  We found different rocks around our school and carefully observed them to see if they were metamorphic, sedimentary or igneous rocks.




 Week 6


During our KS2 assembly, we celebrated the start of Black History Month by focusing on the popular Black British author- Malorie Blackman.  We have read Many of her books such as Pig Heart Boy, Operation Gadgetman and Ellie and the Cat.


In English, we have been doing report writing.  We wrote the introduction to our reports on a mythical creature.  Here is some of our work.



Week 7


During story time, we read a book called Skin Like Mine by Latashia M. Perry.  This is a rhyming book which celebrates diversity.  We enjoyed listening to it and we also had a chance to talk about our own cultures.

During our indoor PE lessons, we have been doing gymnastics.  We have been learning all about symmetry and balancing.  We worked in small groups to create a routine.  Here are some of them.





Autumn 2

Week 1


In English, we are doing story writing.  Our stories are based on the collection of stories called More Naughty Little Sister Stories by Dorothy Edwards.  Here we are practicing our Talk for Writing map!


Week 2

We are continuing to learn the PBuzz with Mr Way.  We know how to play different notes such as a,c f and g.  Have a listen to us playing Hot Cross Buns!


Parliament week 2023

For parliament week, we voted for what was a major issue in our local area: littering or road safety.  We visited our school polling station to make our vote count!



For Remembrance Day we created some poppy arts and craftwork.  We also did a 2 minute silence.


 Week 3

Happy Diwali!

To celebrate Diwali, we dressed up in our own clothes and acted out the different Diwali stories for Sikhs and Hindus.




 We also got to visit our local Gurdwara to learn more about Sikhism!

At the end of our visit, we had something to eat and drink in the kitchen.

Week 4

World Children's Day

For World Children's Day, we learned about our rights.

Some children became mini teachers helping with handwriting.

Other children read stories to us at story time.

Week 5

Epic Science Adventures

We have been learning all about magnetic forces. This week, the Belfast Scientists created a race track and used magnets to navigate their vehicles along the track, turning learning into a thrilling adventure. 

Week 6

Broadway Theatre

We have been learning about playscripts. To round of our learning and engulf in the festive spirit, we went on an exciting trip to watch the magical spectacle of "Dick Whittington" in Panto! Our morning was full of interaction and giggles. 


Spring 1


Week 1 and 2

This term in PSHE we are learning about physical health. This week we explored medicine packaging and discussed how to be safe around medicine and household items. 

Week 3


In Maths, we have started a new area of learning; Measuring Volume. We have learnt how to measure length and mass and are enjoying looking at the similarities and differences between the units of measurements.

Week 4


In Science our topic is Animals including Humans. We have been looking at the human skeleton and understanding how it is needed for support, protection and movement. We also created our own skeleton and labelled the different parts.

Week 5


For Humanities we are learning all about water! We enjoyed creating conservation posters about saving our oceans. 


Week 6

NSPCC Number Day

What a wonderful day raising funds for the incredible charity NSPCC. Throughout the day, the children took part in various maths activities and games.


In English, we have started a new text; How to Trap a Stone Giant

We have already had our 'hook lesson' for this topic ( We have our very own stone giant trap in class!)

Week 7


In Art, we created our very own Pablo Picasso self portraits, experimenting with form and colour and using emotion to create our abstract drawings.


Safer internet day!

We observed safer internet day this week with a special computing lesson dedicated to it. We made and presented out posters to the class.


Spring 2

Week 1


In music, we have been learning the P Buzz. we have learnt a variety of songs and are beginning to bloom into budding musicians!


In PSHE this week we are learning all about good dental hygiene. We started the week by writing instructions on how to brush your teeth, and we worked with our peers to learn about important facts and tips about how and why we must look after our teeth- low sugar diet! We also sorted foods and drinks into those that are good and not good for your teeth. 

Week 2

Gym Workout

Today we have been talking about what is good for our wellbeing! We decided to use our outdoor Gym; in our partners, we took turns and timed each other with egg timers on each of the different apparatus!


Our indoor PE unit is dance. Expression, emotion and creativity makes excellent dancers! Our theme is witches and wizards- look at these children perform! 

                                            World book day 

On Thursday 7th March we celebrated world book day. Everyone dressed up as their favourite book character and we had a day full of exciting activities. 



                                              Mad scientist visit!

As science week approaches, we had a visit from a real scientist! He showed us lots of exciting experiments. 


Week 3


Our science unit this term is 'Plants'. We predicted what the best conditions for growing are. We planted cress seeds and placed them in different conditions; 

- with water and sunlight

-sunlight, no water

-water no sunlight 

-in a bag 

We will be observing, recording and analysing our findings in the coming weeks. 



                                             Comic Relief Day!

Our theme for comic relief day this year is dress up funny for money! We dressed in either clothes or in red but most importantly we raised money to support this charity. 

Week 4

                                               Year 3 River Boat trip  

We really enjoyed our trip on the Uber clippers boat from Barking Riverside to Embankment station. This supported our H20 geography unit of large bodies of water. We were very impressed with our discovery of Barking Beach!

Science Week

To embrace science week, we carried out some experiments this week! We ended the week with science day when we came in dressed up as a scientist and enjoyed inviting our parents/guardians to join us for an afternoon of fun and to present some of what we had been learning. 



Week 5

Celebration Assembly

Our Celebration Assembly was a huge success. It was lovely to see so many parents, carers and family members present to share the celebrations. The children have been working hard in school and was wonderful to see them rewarded for their hard work. A huge well done to all of our children that received certificates for the chosen awards.

Easter Bonnet Parade

Wow! It was lovely to see the amount of effort that went in to making the Easter Bonnets! The children loved showing off their creations in the parade. It was really hard to pick our winners because everyone looked so wonderful.

Summer 1

Week 1

In English, we are learning how to write explanation texts.  Watch us practice our new Talk for Writing explanation text on why cats are excellent hunter!


Week 2

The Belfast Super Science Squad visited the secondary science labs and took part in a workshop all about plants. 

The Year 8 Science Ambassadors quizzed us on what plants needed to grow and then we got to plant our own cress seeds which we took home.
